Uncertainty Principle

Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle - there is inherent uncertainty in the act of measuring a variable of a particle

Uncertainty Principle

Nothing can be measured perfectly,

Yet we still chase after the impossible,

Hoping that it will provide,

Some measurement of how perfect we are,

Nothing can be measured perfectly,

But I still try to prove myself,

To people that only measure my imperfections,

I don’t want to be measured perfectly,

Because without my beautiful flaws,

My perfection has no meaning.

Blue Poem REWRITE

So, earlier, I posted a poem from third grade titled "Blue".To test how far I've come, I decided to rewrite it and change it a little (or a lot). Here it is along with the original:

Blue

Blue is the ocean, the sky, and the ice

Blue is waves whipping and the cloud’s cries

Blue is the salty sea

Blue is a bird that's free

Blue is dark and bright

Blue is fish and light

Blue is a coat on a cold winter night

In a large storm, blue is afloat

An ocean with a small boat.

Rewrite:

Turquoise reflections etched on my gaze,

As my eyes follow the cerulean moon rising above the sea,

I sit on the sand and watch the world turn into the blue heart of a flame,

Dark, yet bright and ablaze

Once the world on land slips away,

In the Aegean expanse,

A blue whale and the wind sing in harmony,

The steady beat of the waves pushes me deeper into the ocean’s song

Blue is calm but never silent

Blue as the tears that threaten to spill,

Blue as the sea underneath my fingertips,

Blue as the moon hanging like a painting,

All under the sapphire sky.

Ode to My Hair Ties

 Ode to My Hair Ties

What holds up something,

That is bound to crash down?

It stands against the tide of a tangled midnight sea,

Each loop is like a promise,

And I wear it like a crown,

Each pull is like a chain on something seemingly free.

What comes next? As we venture into the unknown,

I feel those worries leave me, as I glance at my wrist,

Knowing I will have them wherever I go,

Whether I rise, or whether I fall,

When life feels hopeless, and my smile becomes wry,

I’ll take one off my wrist, and I’ll stand tall,

Where would I be with my hair ties?

Law of Intertia

Law of Intertia
I am a body at rest,
Waiting for a force,
To restart the beating in my chest,
I wait for a gust of wind,
To fuel the fire in my eyes,
To propel me through this labyrinth,
And its walls of white lies,
I feel my fingers start to freeze,
And my eyelids flutter shut,
I pray for something, even a breeze,
To stop me before I turn to dust.

Ghosts

 Ghosts

Anxiety is like a ghost,

Whose insistent gaze is almost tangible,

But when I turn,

I’m met with empty air,

Soon I’m always looking over my shoulder,

Worrying about the smallest of things

I’m sure that I’m exaggerating the problem,

That there is nothing haunting me,

But if I feel it breathing into my ear,

Hear it remind me of everything I had forgotten,

How can that be nothing?

Moonlit beach

Have you ever felt the ambience of being one with the sea? Living in Florida meant that the beach was of quite easy access. Here’s a poem about the relationship between me and the ocean.

Moonlit Beach

The waves were dancing to the will of the silver moon,

They bent and crashed as the wind whistled its haunting tune,

I muttered my secret into the ocean’s ear,

And watched it disappear into the tide from the darkened pier,

My whisper traveled farther down the coast until it sunk to the seafloor,

It was between me and the sea and so I wasn’t alone anymore,

As I stood on the dock on that warm summer night,

I swore never to forget this glimmering beach in the moonlight.

History of Father's Day

Happy Father's Day!

The third Sunday of June is the day we celebrate the fathers of our households.  The first Father's Day was celebrated in Washington on June 19th, 1910. However, it wasn't made a national holiday until 62 years later in 1972. On the other hand, Mother's Day was made a national holiday 58 years before Father's Day.

Father's Day was met with a lot of controversy when it was first introduced. Many men called this holiday incredibly commercial because it apparently "domesticating manliness to a high degree".

Additionally, many activists sought to make a single Parents' Day instead of Mother's and Father's Day because both parents deserve an equal amount of recognition.

This controversy ended after World War 2 because the American public had agreed that Father's Day was a good day to celebrate the young men of the American troops. Soon after, Richard Nixon declared Father's Day a national holiday.

Here are some facts about the widely-acclaimed holiday:

1) Around 111 countries celebrate Father's Day.

2)The third Sunday of June was picked by accident after it was originally supposed to happen on June 5th but the pastors weren't prepared so it was postponed.

3) Only 50% of Father's Day cards are purchased for a father, the others are for husbands, grandfather's sons, or uncles.

4) Sonora Smart Dodd was the "mother of Father's Day" as she grew up with a widowed father and appreciated the work he put into raising her.
